Romeo Tejones Morallos is hard to miss; heโ€™s tall after all, but very unassuming and soft-spoken. He hails from Brooklyn. Carapdapan, Arteche, Eastern Samar, is the newest addition to the ANAS family. He was one of the graduates of the Diploma in Agricultural Technology who was part of the Class of 2022 under the UAQTEA Scholarship (Universal Access to Quality and Tertiary Education Act). Later,ย  he proceeded to take his Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Agriculture from the Eastern Samar State University-Main Campus the same year and graduated in 2023, this was thru ANASโ€™ partnership with the state university enabling graduates from the Diploma Programs to continue their education and earn their Bachelorโ€™s Degree.

He then took the Licensure Examination for Agriculturists and passed on his first try. This may sound like a straightforward success story, but Romeoโ€™s journey was far from rosy.

Born into a family of farmers and fishermen, heโ€™s the thirdย in a brood of five; as a child, he used to accompany his father in farming and fishing. Needless to say, life was hard. But young Romeo was unfazed and determined; he finished his primary education and set off to Manila to work as a houseboy. For 5 years, he worked and saved money with the intention of sending himself to school. Determined, he enrolled in DepEdโ€™s Alternative Learning System (ALS), a program that gives out-of-school youth and adults a chance to finish high school, which he completed after a year. In 2019, he got wind of the scholarship program at ANAS and saw it as a chance for his dream to be realized; he enrolled, and in the same year, he started his 3-year journey to earning his diploma. He says being a UAQTEA scholar helped him a lot because, not only was he able to learn from experienced trainers, he was also able to take care of his needs via the Training Support Fund (TSF) they receive every semester, even enabling him to occasionally contribute to their household expenses.

Armed with faith, positivity and the knowledge and training heย  from ANAS, he sat offย  to the big university and finally reaped the fruit of his labor โ€“ his Diploma.

Currently, Romeo handles subjects under the DAT program and he also serves as a support staff for theย  UTPRAS Office. He hopes to further do good in his job and find stability so he can support his parents who are already senior citizens.

With his independent-thinking and take-charge ย attitude, Romeo has a long way to go. For now, he is very much happy giving back to the TESDA family whom he is very fond of. Continuously honing is skills and knowledge to better his craft. Romeo expressed his gratitude to TESDA for all the opportunities heย  was able to access through his TVET training.
